UN has it right about Canada

The public should be schooled about First Nations issues in Canada.

To the Editor,

For those miffed by a United Nations representative for “only spending nine days” visiting Canada before critically commenting on how Canada treats First Nations, nine days is unfortunately probably more time than most Canadians have ever spent learning about First Nations issues and how Aboriginal Peoples are treated in our country.

Prior to the last federal election, I remember watching a TV interviewer ask an aboriginal woman if she planned to vote and who for, only to be shocked and dismayed to hear her reply “Why? We’re nothing but third-class citizens anyway.”

Pretty much says it all, methinks.
