Aker rink takes A-event in Aurora Roofing Mixed Bonspiel

Alberni Valley Curling Club draws curlers from across the country for popular annual mixed event

The annual Aurora Roofing Mixed Bonspiel drew curlers from as far away as Quebec as well as the Lower Mainland and other Island locations to Port Alberni on March 14-16.

There were 24 teams that participated in the Western-themed spiel that had the upstairs decorated in everything from cowboy hats to a "most wanted" booth. 

Aurora Roofing owner and sponsor Murray Tysowski presented the first place prizes to the A event winners: bouquets of flowers, hoodies and ball caps. “Thank you for letting me sponsor this event," he said. "This is the best in all of B.C. Thank you to the many volunteers and all of the sponsors.”

The two-day event found the following first place winners in each of the events. In A event it was the Aker Rink with Rick Aker, skip, Cheryle Cashman, third, Don McClellan, second and lead Luisa McClellan.

In B event the winners were the Sawyer Rink with Brandon Sawyer, skip, Amy Sommerville, third, Tyler Sommerville, second and lead Donelle Sawatzky.

In C event the winners were the Evans Rink with skip John Evans, third Beth Evans, second Stu Shaw and lead Bev Shaw. In D event the winners were the Issel Rink with skip Cecil Issel, third Mhairi MacDonell, second Brad Klein and lead Rosie Carter.
