SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

There was an excellent turnout for the Port Boat House Red, White and Blue event on Sunday. The course was in great shape and the weather was sunny and warm.

Before we get into the results, I’d like to comment on something that rarely, if ever, happens in the same foursome while playing together. The foursome of Lloyd Fairley, Steve White, Gary Korven and Gerry Fagan all birdied Number 6. Fagan led the way by draining a 15-footer, then Fairley sank a eight-footer, then White with a five-foot putt. Finally Korven sank a four-foot putt.

Corey Nielson led all golfers, carding a gross 71. Great game Corey! Other gross winners were Colin Hamilton, shooting 74. Shawn Banman came in with 75, Preben Rasmussen shot 77 and both Brian Tall and Fred Fredrickson had 79.

On the net side, Ron Barker came in with net 60.

In second place was the familiar face of Tylo Smith, with 63. Other net winners were Al Wright, carding 64, Bill Bjornson with 65, Chris Owen and Cal Davies with 67. Jack Sparks, Gary McLeod Phil Anker, Steve White all had 68.

The final net prize went to Dennis Frykas, shooting 69.

Closest to the pins were won by Darren VanDyk on No. 2, Vic Carlton on No. 4 (also collecting $25 for the charity closest to the pin), Chris Owen on No. 13 and no one on No. 17.

Many thanks to Port Boat House for their continued support!

Next Sunday is a pro event sponsored by Alberni Toyota. When you come into the Pro Shop you pick a number, and the corresponding pro playing in the British Open will be your partner.

The pro’s score and your net score added together will determine where you finish in our event.

Please register in your own group in the Pro Shop no later than 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21 for the 8 a.m. shotgun start.
