Alberni Valley Tyee Club's ladder season a family affair

Tyee Club's midway derby set for Sunday, Aug. 18

The Alberni Valley Tyee Club's ladder season is off to a good start, and so far it's been a real family affair.

The first Chinook of the season to be weighed in was by junior member Ryker Klyne, with a 25.5-pound fish. He was followed by his father, Matt Klyne, with a 23.9-pounder. Matt took first place on the adult board, while Ryker currently leads the juniors and overall.

Adult Colby Erickson came in with an 18.8-pounder, only to be bumped by his father Kevin Erickson with a 20.5-pounder, moving Colby to third place. Brother Nash Erickson took over second place on the junior board with a 16.3-pounder, and Colby eventually got bumped once more off the board into fourth place when Ed Carrier came in with a nice 23-pounder.

The season is starting to heat up now that sockeye season is winding down. The Tyee Club's midway derby will be held on Sunday, Aug 18 for all paid members. Tickets must purchased prior to fishing. The three-day Labour Day weekend Salmon Derby will also be held from Aug. 31 to Sept 2. Tickets are available at Gone Fishin' (4985 Johnston Road).

The Tyee Club season officially ends on Sept. 8.
