Alberni weightlifter heads to world championship

Dhaliwal is ranked second in the Pan Americas and fifth overall in the world

A Port Alberni athlete is headed to Barcelona, Spain this week to compete in a weightlifting world championship.

Raghbir Singh Dhaliwal has lived in Port Alberni for the past 45 years and has competed as a weightlifter since he moved here. On Aug. 13, he and coach Kim Rai travelled to Barcelona where Dhaliwal will compete in the 2018 World Masters Weightlifting Championships.

Dhaliwal will compete in the 69-kilogram class, in the 65–70-year age category.

He is currently ranked second in the Pan Americas and fifth overall in the world.
