Close to 300 young track and field athletes flocked to Bob Dailey Stadium April 26–27 for the Alberni Valley Track Club's first outdoor meet of the season.
“This year’s Bob Dailey meet had the largest attendance since 2017 with over 280 athletes from around B.C.," Alberni's head coach and event organizer Darren Willis said.
"The Bob Dailey meet is one of seven competitions hosted by clubs on Vancouver Island each season. We had local athletes from ages nine to 19 competing this weekend with a lot of strong early season performances," he said.
The event featured relay races, Steeplechase (for the younger members a run around a pink flamingo instead of jumping over the hurdle), long jump, javelin and discus.
With a weekend of sunshine, warm weather — but not too warm — and great volunteers to help run the event "it was a fantastic start to a busy competition season," he added. “ Darren.
