Curlers bound for provincials

Winners of the 2017 provincial championships will qualify for the first-ever Canadian U18 Curling Championships.

A combined Parksville/ Port Alberni/ Victoria team has qualified for the B.C. U18 Curling Championships after winning the Island playdowns Jan. 13–15.

Parksville junior curlers Libby Elliott, Michaela Morrill and Lauren Onushko qualified for the inaugural B.C. U18 Curling Championships after winning the Vancouver Island playdowns Jan. 13-15 at Nanaimo Curling Centre.

The combined Parksville/Port Alberni/Victoria rink includes skip Rebecca Douglas of Port Alberni and third Julia Kresse, and is coached by Dave Douglas (also of Port Alberni).

Nanaimo Curling Centre will also play host to the provincials, a new addition to the Curl B.C. event schedule. Previously, the province held a U16 juvenile championship, with the winners qualifying for U18 Optimists International.

Winners of the 2017 provincial championships will qualify for the first-ever Canadian U18 Curling Championships against teams from all provinces and territories.
