Hundreds compete at 36th Tlu-piich Games

Numbers were slightly down from last year due to wildfire smoke

The 36th Nuu-chah-nulth Tlu-piich Games took place from Aug. 7 to Aug. 12, 2018.

Days two and three featured three-on-three basketball at Maht Mahs Gym. Canoe races took place at Canal Waterfront Park on Friday, and the games closed with a slo-pitch tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Games coordinator Richard Samuel said there were 960 athletes registered overall and an estimated 800 spectators. Numbers were slightly down compared to last year, especially for track and field events, but this was attributed to smoke from the local wildfires.
