Men’s basketball spring league sees close games during week 3

Co-op remains undefeated atop the standings

Week three of the Port Alberni Men’s Basketball Spring League saw one team notch their first win, another climbed back into relevancy, while one cemented their position, alone, atop of the standings.

During game one, team Dave Ralla beat Twisted Willow Studio 81 to 56. Neither team was able to take more than a 4 pt lead for most of the first half, until Team Ralla closed out the final minutes on a 16-4 run. The second half, Twisted Willow’s shooting remained cool, while Ralla continued to heat up. Dominic Thomas’ 18 led the scoring for Twisted Willow. Dave Ralla’s Kevin Titian and Sam Moncur led with 33 and 27, respectively.

During game two, Ladybird Engraving beat Boston Pizza 77 to 57. This match-up was dominated with large scoring runs for both teams throughout the first half. Eventually Ladybird Engraving began scoring in bunches to close out the half, building a 45-31 half-time lead. In the second half, Ladybird never looked back and completed the upset over BP’s on the back of scoring from Mike Lange, with 24 points, and Tristian Jensen’s 18.

Game three saw Co-op beat Tseshaht Market 59 to 57. For the first time this season, Co-op had an opportunity to stand alone atop of the standings, while Tseshaht Market could create a three-way tie for first, with a win. This was a nail-biter with eight ties and nine lead changes throughout regulation and wasn’t decided until the final seconds of over time. Tseshaht Market had four scorers approach double digit scoring, with Rune Sinclair contributing nine and Brenden Lundy Sam’s 12 leading the way . Co-op remained undefeated with help from Coby Felsman’s 19 and Matthew Edgar’s 13 points.
