Nanaimo clips Bulldogs 6-3 in Sunday tilt

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs lost 6-3 to the Nanaimo Clippers in Bulldogs final home game of the regular season.

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs lost 6-3 to the Nanaimo Clippers in Bulldogs final home game of the regular season.

Playing before a crowd of 1,200, the Bulldogs held a 2-1 lead after the first period. But the Clippers scored four unanswered goals through the second and third periods. The Bulldogs added a third goal in the final period but the Clippers notched another to take the game 6-3.

The Bulldogs sit in third place in the BCHL Island Division, while the Clippers are holding second place. The Victoria Grizzlies have clinched the division.

The game wasn’t without incident. In the second period, Bulldogs player Teal Burns was checked heavily into the boards behind the Nanaimo net breaking a glass pane. The incident caused the game to be delayed for more than 30 minutes.

The Bulldogs had 36 shots on goal to the Bulldogs 28. The Clippers were 3-4 on the power play while the Bulldogs were one for two.

The Bulldogs were assessed 18 minutes in penalties and the Clippers 14 minutes.
