The Tlu-piich Games are returning to Port Alberni next month.

The annual event, which is free and open to participants of Aboriginal descent, takes place from Aug. 7-12.

Day one, on Tuesday, Aug. 7, kicks off with track and field events at Bob Dailey Stadium at 2 p.m. This will be followed by Opening Ceremonies and a cultural night.

Track and field games continue on Wednesday, Aug. 8, along with three-on-three basketball for ages 17 and under at the Maht Mahs Gym.

Thursday’s events includes a family day and bbq lunch, along with a “Language Hunt” at Williamson Park. Three-on-three basketball for ages 13 and under, as well as seniors, will take place at Maht Mahs Gym.

Canoe races kick off on Friday at Canal Waterfront Park at 9 a.m. The tournament closes with a slo-pitch tournament at Gyro Recreation Park on Saturday and Sunday, followed by closing ceremonies.

A notable absence in this year’s schedule is the popular fast-pitch tournament. Organizers have stated that they are working to put on a softball camp for ages 17 and under before the games.
