Ballenas Whalers defensive lineman Enzo Agostini will get an opportunity to showcase his talents against the best high school football players in the nation in the second edition of the Canadianfootballchat.com Prospect Game.

The Grade 11 student is one of the top 70 high school players named to the prospect game that will take place at TD Stadium in Ottawa on Friday, May 27. The game will be broadcast on TSN.

The six-foot-six, 230-pound Agostini was the Whalers outstanding offensive and defensive lineman. He was named BC High School Football’s most valuable player on defence in the AA Coastal Conference and was also named to the AA All-Star team. In the prospects game, he will be joining Team Dunigan as one of their defensive linemen.

Canadianfootballchat.com was founded in 2010 and became a major recruiting resource for high school football players and scouts. The selection process consisted of a cross-country tour, visiting 10 cities featuring a professional combine setting including a 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical and broad jump events.

The Ballenas Whalers program is proud to see one of their own making it at this level. Head coach Jeremy Conn said the first time the coaches met Agostini they knew he was going to be a special player.

“He was already taller than most of our kids,” said Conn. “But beyond the natural size, he has worked so hard to get bigger, faster and stronger. He then also worked on his skills and football IQ. He is a pleasure to coach and great team player who has matured a lot and is always open to learning more. This is such an exciting opportunity for him.”

Conn said last year they sat down with Agostini to map out a plan that he readily absorbed and executed well.

“He’s doing great on the field, in the classroom, in the weightroom and all his preparation is paying off now that he has the opportunities,” said Conn, adding Agostini’s selection also reflects well on the Whalers program.

“It shows what we are doing is playing off to get kids ready, who want to play at the next level and be among the best in Canada,” said Conn.

The Whalers have started spring training and are preparing for the annual junior and senior varsity jamborees that will feature Ballenas, John Barsby Bulldogs, Nanaimo District Islanders and the Sardis Falcons from Chilliwack.

The junior Whalers will see action against the Bulldogs and the Falcons on Wednesday, May 25, at John Barsby Secondary. The senior Whalers will take on Bulldogs, Falcons and Islanders on Friday, May 27, (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) at Barsby Secondary.

The Whalers are also staging a number of fundraisers. They are holding a bottle drive on May 14 at Ballenas Secondary ,starting at 10 a.m.

On June 18, the Whalers host their annual golf tournament at Arrowmsith Golf Club starting at 2 p.m., featuring aTexas Scramble format and including a variety of fun events, burgers, social, draws and a silent action. For more information you can go to their Facebook page.
