City of Port Alberni starts the season with Summer Kickoff for kids

Hundreds headed to Bob Dailey Stadium for games, crafts and a duck hunt

The City of Port Alberni’s Parks, Recreation and Heritage department helped the younger set kick off summer with an indoor/outdoor event at Glenwood Centre and Bob Dailey Stadium on Friday, June 23, 2023.

Numerous tents with activities for kids were set up outside. The Gyro Club of the Albernis cooked hotdogs for the gathered crowd—about 500 of them—and Campfire Lance (aka Lance Lapointe) provided live music for the afternoon.

The duck hunt at 5:30 p.m. saw kids of all ages line up for the chance to collect as many ducks as they could and turn them in for a prize package. Shawn Bourgoin, Dave Osborne and another staff member tossed hundreds of ducks onto the infield at one end of Bob Dailey Stadium. Some lucky kids, like Brooklyn Moreside, picked up golden ducks for special prizes.
