North Island College celebrates its Port Alberni graduates in belated ceremony

Graduation ceremony postponed due to Highway 4 closures

North Island College graduates in Port Alberni finally had a chance to celebrate their graduation, a little later than expected.

The Class of 2023 originally had their graduating ceremony scheduled for June 13, but this had to be postponed after the Cameron Bluffs wildfire forced the closure of Highway 4.

North Island College representatives said at the time that they wanted to celebrate when community resources were not hampered by the road closures.

The graduation ceremony was rescheduled instead to Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) theatre. Graduates finally had a chance to cross the stage and accept their certificates and diplomas.

Linda Russell, a graduate of the Early Childhood Care & Education Certificate, was the student speaker for the Class of 2023. Riley Bridge, a graduate of the Practical Nursing Diploma, received the Governor General’s Academic Medal for the highest Grade Point Average (GPA).
