Sahara Jane will be bringing her global fusion sound to Port Alberni this week.

For the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nova Scotia-based musician Sahara Jane is heading back out on the road. This time around, she and co-producer Ken Shorley are embarking on a cross-Canada tour to share their new album, Something Good.

In 2018, Sahara Jane joined up with longtime friend and collaborator Ken Shorley in Mumbai to work on her sophomore solo release Between Worlds. What started as a musical recording project blossomed into a lifelong commitment and the two were married before the album even came out.

During the long days and subsequent years of the pandemic, the two musicians hunkered down in a small A-frame house in rural Nova Scotia and continued to create music and explore sound together. The result is their most recent effort; a recording and a show which allows them to express their vast musical interests and capabilities, using sounds ranging from Indian rhythms and ragas to Indonesian gamelan loops to a typewriter percussion track.

For this tour, the duo is bringing an immersive ‘global fusion’ sound in a compact package. “We want to give our live audiences, regardless of the size of the venue, the chance to lose themselves in the music,” says multi-instrumentalist Ken Shorley. “But we also want to be able to carry all the gear ourselves!”

Thursday, May 2 will be Sahara Jane and Ken Shorley’’s first visit to Port Alberni, where they look forward to playing at Char’s Landing. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and are available at www.charslanding.com or by calling 250-730-1636.
