Singer, songwriter and rocker, Sarah Smith, will be performing with her acoustic guitar and bass player at Char’s Landing on Thursday, June 23.

Smith, 38, has been playing music since she was a teenager and touring the country and other parts of the world for just about as long.

The London, ON resident fronted the popular Canadian rock band The Joys before pursuing a solo career in 2012.  She’s performed with the likes of Bif Naked, The Trews, Sam Roberts and Bedouin Soundclash.

“People compare me to Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow and Janis Joplin,” Smith said.

Playing an assortment of both older and more recent songs smith said audiences can expect an energetic acoustic show with raspy vocals.

Her latest album, The Journey, serves as both an emotional and musical journey with 14 tracks co-written by Smith and Pat Anthony.

Anthony, music producer from Europe, heard Smith’s music through Facebook and invited her to Germany where she continues to play about two or three times a year.

“I write about my emotions and my relationships, all my relationships, my partner my friends my music my relationship to God, addictions, everything,” Smith said.

No stranger to the road Smith is constantly touring, playing anywhere between 250 and 300 shows a year.

“I love the road. I love every experience and opportunity that comes my way,” Smith said.

During her Western Canada Tour, Smith and bassist, Ken Ross, are traveling VIA Rail from Toronto to Edmonton on an Artist on Board tour where the duo play music for train riders.

“Music is definitely the priority and we don’t get a lot of days off but when you’re living your dream it’s pretty awesome,” Smith said.

Once her current tour concludes Smith will head to Eastern Canada for a handful of festivals before trekking to Mexico at the end of September.

“We’re taking this tour to kind of tighten up some of the new songs because as soon as we’re done the tour we’re going directly into the studio to record,” Smith said.

Smith has played Char’s Landing twice in the past and will be on stage at the venue for 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 on sale now at Char’s Landing or call 778-421-2427.
