The next Electric Mermaid: Live Reads event in Port Alberni will feature local sci-fi author Nikki Haffner.

Haffner (she/her) was raised by her grandmother in rural California and moved to Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada with her husband and child in 2017. She has been writing stories since the age of eight, and has always dreamed of publishing a novel. Her book Pytiria: The Immortal was published in 2021.

When she’s not writing or podcasting, Haffner enjoys hiking in nature, playing with her dogs, and tabletop gaming with her friends and family.

Haffner writes authentically, blending imagination with her lived experience. She identifies as a Black, queer woman. She is a proud member of the LGBTQIA2+ community and tries to write fiction that is inclusive of everyone. Writing Pytiria is just the first step for Haffner. She looks forward to continuing the Pytiria series, as well as publishing a variety of books in numerous genres moving forward.

You can find Haffner on instagram as @nikkihaffner_author, or by email at nikkihaffnerauthor@gmail.com.

Her books are available on Kobo, Indigo, Barnes and Noble and Smashwords as ebooks and Amazon as ebooks, paperback, and hardcover. In addition, signed copies are available through Haffner and the publishing company Rainbird Publishing and Multimedia.

With host and emcee Derek Hanebury’s literary guidance, featured reader Haffner and a host of authors through the open mic, this evening promises to keep poetry and prose fans engaged. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the open mic runs from 6-8 p.m. Admission is $10.
