Port Alberni’s centennial attractions are so vast that you need a passport to see them all, at least that’s the idea.
The initiative kicked off at the discovery centre, and is part of the Alberni Valley’s centennial events, which occur all year long.
Residents and visitors can pick up the passports at the Tourist Information Centre, the Alberni Valley Museum, Maritime Discovery Centre or Rollin Art Centre.
According to museum employee Shelly Harding, people can take their passports with them and get them stamped when visiting centennial exhibits at the museum, discovery centre, and at Rollin.
When all three stamps are collected, they can redeem their passport for a centennial pin.
On March 1, 1912, BC’s lieutenant governor created the City of Port Alberni, the fifth city to be incorporated on Vancouver Island.
That same month, the first mayor and council were elected to office. In January 1913, the City of Alberni was incorporated.
