A group of 12 friends who all went to high school in Port Alberni didn’t expect to be caught in the biggest snowstorm of the year at Mount Washington Alpine Resort.
The friends arrived at the resort late Friday afternoon and Saturday, spending Saturday skiing and snowboarding while the snow began to fall. Saturday night, while they were cosy in their rented chalet, the resort received 105 cm and the plows couldn’t keep up with clearing the snowfall off the Strathcona Parkway.

Sunday morning, it took the group three hours—between 10 people—to shovel out their cars where they had parked them, across from the access to the Alpine Village. “We ended up having to push them out,” said Karly Blats.
