Port Alberni RCMP are investigating three reports of break and enters into float cabins on Great Central Lake.
On November 24, the owner of a float cabin reported his cabin had been entered and some tools and a power inverter were stolen. A subsequent investigation revealed that the Brown’s Bay Dryland sort was also broken into. A large quantity of fuel was stolen from heavy equipment, and it appears that the suspect had used a motor boat moored nearby to access the cabin.
In the early morning hours of January 21, two men broke into another float cabin. Their activities were captured on a game camera as they took liquor, pellet guns and fuel cans.
On January 27, a third cabin was found to have been broken into, and some liquor and miscellaneous items were stolen.
Given the time of year, police believe that more cabins have been broken into, but have not yet been discovered or reported. Police would like cabin owners in the Great Central Lake area to check their properties. Should a break and enter be discovered, or property otherwise stolen or damaged, the public is asked to call police. It’s important that owners not touch anything until police have a chance to examine the scene.
Anyone with information on these break and enters is asked to contact the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424 or Alberni Valley Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
