Grass could be greener in cemetery: Kenny

Port Alberni Parks and Recreation staff will prepare a report on the cost of installing irrigation.

Plans are in the works to possibly install irrigation at Greenwood cemetery after a number of complaints regarding its upkeep to city council.

Parks, recreation and heritage director Scott Kenny told council that city crew had missed two scheduled mowing days due to vacations, which was around the same time when the complaints came in.

“Once you hit the summer months the grass burns out,” Kenny said, explaining there is no irrigation to keep the grass green. “We’ll be sticking to [the current mowing] schedule for the most part.” City council voted in favour to look at installing irrigation at the cemetery.
