Harbour Quay leases renewed

City council renewed two Harbour Quay leases in city-owned buildings following a report on hours of operation from city staff.

City council renewed two Harbour Quay leases in city-owned buildings following a report on hours of operation from director of parks, recreation and heritage Scott Kenny.

Council had deferred approval for Salmonberry’s Emporium and Sweet Pea Coffee and Desserts at their April 13 meeting due to concerns that the businesses down at the Quay were not open consistently enough.

Kenny’s report said that “it would be a mistake to impose specific hours of operation for the merchants at the Quay” because “the shops are unique... and responsive to the needs of resisdents and visitors alike.”

An eample of that responsiveness laid out in the report were the Donut Shop’s and Sugar Shak’s offset hours that ensure that there is coffee available at the Quay from 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Kenny said that staff would continue to work with Quay merchants to ensure sufficient hours.
