A Port Alberni man is facing charges following a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, Feb. 7, Port Alberni RCMP responded to a collision at 4th Ave and Bute St.  An Oldsmobile struck a Ford Escape, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the collision, the driver of the Oldsmobile fled on foot. Two witnesses to the collision took it upon themselves to follow the fleeing driver and were able to contain him in an alley just north of Burde St. until police arrived.

The fleeing driver showed signs of impairment by alcohol and was detained for investigation of impaired driving causing injury.

The 28-year-old Port Alberni man is now facing charges of Impaired Driving and Driving Without a Valid Licence and has been given a 24 hour driving suspension.  He is set to appear in court on May 3.
