The smell of B.C. bud turned into trouble for a Port Alberni bud after a routine traffic stop. RCMP pulled over a Dodge Dakota pick-up truck while conducting a road check on Highway Four near Qualicum Beach last Saturday night.

The smell of B.C. bud turned into trouble for a Port Alberni bud after a routine traffic stop.

RCMP pulled over a Dodge Dakota pick-up truck while conducting a road check on Highway Four near Qualicum Beach last Saturday night.

An officer detected the odour of marijuana in the truck, and after being questioned the 31-year-old driver from Port Alberni handed over a small bag of pot from inside his shaving kit.

Police arrested the man and a subsequent search of the truck revealed three Kitchen Catcher sized plastic bags of fresh B.C. bud weighing a total of 11 kilograms (25 lbs.).

Police have recommended charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking against the man, who was released on a promise to appear.

He is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court on March 9.
