Port Alberni suspect throws axe at resident in targeted hit

The motive for the attack is unknown but Port Alberni RCMP believe it was targeted.

A Port Alberni resident is recovering after an unknown assailant threw an axe at his head in the early-morning hours of June 20.

At 5:20 a.m. on June 20 Port Alberni RCMP responded to a call of an axe having been thrown at a resident in the area of Third Avenue and Montrose Street.

Sometime after 4 a.m., the resident of the home was awakened by a bang on his door, according to RCMP Cpl. Amelia Hayden.

“Upon opening his door, an unknown male with a red bandana covering his face threw an axe towards the resident, striking him in the top of the head,” Hayden related.

“The resident suffered minor injuries and was taken the West Coast General Hospital.

“At this time, the motive for the assault is unknown. It is believed that the attack was targeted,” Hayden said.
