TELUS is investing $3 million in Port Alberni this year in an effort to expand and enhance its wireless and wireline networks.
The telecommunications giant made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday.
"TELUS' $3 million investment will enhance our world-class wireless network and improve Internet speeds for businesses and households right here in Port Alberni," said Ray Lawson, TELUS general manager of Customer Solutions Delivery for the community.
The move will bring advanced wireless and wireline broadband to residents in nearby rural communities such as Marble Bay, Ditidaht and Squirrel Cove this year.
The investment is part of $3 billion in infrastructure upgrades Telus is making across British Columbia through 2014.
TELUS has also committed to supporting local charities and community organisations.
"TELUS believes deeply in the symbiotic relationship between the success of business and the welfare of our communities," Lawson said.
"We embrace a simple philosophy - we give where we live - and we take great pride in the social outcomes we are helping to realize,” Lawson said.
