The Coulson Rink at Port Alberni's multiplex was hopping on Boxing Day afternoon as families donned their skates for one of two final public sessions of Winter Wonderland. The final session is tonight (Dec. 26) from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Close to 8,000 people took in this year's event, said Ron Paulson of the city's parks and rec department. That included 13 public sessions, as well as those hosting school groups, seniors facilities and privately-booked sessions.
The display will be taken down on Tuesday, Dec. 27, and public skating sessions will resume later that day. Public sessions are slated for 12:30-2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 27, 1-2:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, Thursday, Dec. 29 and Friday, Dec. 30.
Skating will return to First Night celebrations for the first time in a few years on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 6-9 p.m., with a free family event at the Multiplex.
