VIU, striking professors reach deal

Classes at all Vancouver Island University campuses are set to resume Tuesday (April 12).

Vancouver Island University and its striking professors reached an agreement late Sunday, bringing an end to a month-long strike that threatened to cancel the entire spring semester.

Members of the VIU Faculty Association ratified the deal by a 90-per cent margin at a general meeting Sunday night, according to a statement on the association's website.

While some issues remain outstanding, those are expected to be resolved with help from a mediator in the coming weeks.

The university says classes will resume Tuesday (April 12) with the spring semester to be completed by April 29. The summer session will go ahead uninterrupted, according to a statement on the VIU website.

The strike began March 10.
