March 18, 1930 - May 8, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clifford DALE Chase. Dale passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024 with his family at his side.

Dale was born in Saskatchewan on March 18, 1930 and lived in Port Alberni since his early childhood. In 1953 he married, Bette Lee, the love of his life for 71 years.

Dale is survived by his wife Bette, their son Guy (Jo-ann) and their daughters: Lonnie (Tanja Dyck), Susan (Richard Chrétien) and Kim (Todd Weir).

He is also survived by 5 Grand Children: Laura, Jenny, Tia, Cody, Ashlee and spouses as well as 9 Great Grandchildren: Chase, Jesse, Riley, Tyler, Hudson, Ava, Ben, Hannah and Sydney.

He was predeceased by his parents Cliff and Ida and his sisters Flo Salmon and Mildred (Bug) Croisdale.

Dale was such a loving father who always encouraged his children to look after each other, achieve greatness and always strive to be better. He had the biggest heart and greeted everyone with his big smile. He was always there for his kids, grandkids and great grandchildren, helping them any way he could. He had a special relationship with each of his kids. Dale had a cheeky personality and he loved to tease or joke around. He led by example for his kids proving that hard work was the secret to a better life and to always help family members in any way you can. It was very evident to his family what a devoted man he was to his wife and that he loved her endlessly. He showed us all on a daily basis the respectful man and dedicated partner he was. Dale proudly spent the last 20 years of his life being the primary caregiver for Bette due to her MS.

In the early years, Dale and Bette belonged to the High Steppers - they both loved to dance. On many weekends they hosted socials in their home.

Working outdoors was what Dale loved to do, He proudly worked as a logger for over 30 years. He was one of the original partners of Mars Contracting. No matter how cold or wet he was when he came home from work, he always said he wouldn't trade his job for any other job in the world. In 1979, Dale retired after selling his share of the partnership in Mars Industries.

RV'ing and travelling was always a favorite thing for Dale as he and Bette took their children on many great road trips with the family of 6 happily crowded in their trailer.

After retirement, Dale and Bette enjoyed camping or going to Qualicum Beach alongside their dear friends Vic and Marcelle Frykas. Often, their children and grandchildren joined them. They spent the winter season enjoying the warmer weather in Yuma, playing cards, dancing, rolling dice, or a hearty game of shuffleboard. While they travelled around the USA, they enjoyed many Country and Western concerts.

In their later years, Dale and Bette stayed close to home. Family and friends were always around to visit, whether to play cards, Mexican dominoes or to take care of them as they aged in their home.

We would like to acknowledge Dale's lifelong friend, Vic Frykas. They were great friends for almost 80 years. Vic and Dale went on many great adventures including driving to California as teenagers. He loved the times he spent with Vic.

We would also like to mention his Brother-in-Law Alec Croisdale that was a good friend of Dale's for decades.

We would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses that looked after him especially in the last couple of days. You were so kind and understanding allowing so many family members to be with him until the end.

Dale lived life to the fullest with his wife at his side throughout his 94 years. His family, his friends and his pets were his world. He was our world. We will never forget him.

Dale will be cremated with a private family gathering being held.

Anyone that spent time with Dale, knows how much he loved and spoiled his cat "Buddy" and Bette's cat "Noel". In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation in Dale's memory to your local SPCA nothing would please him more than knowing some more animals were being taken care of.
