Douglas grew up on a small farm near St. Paul, Alberta until the family moved to a dairy farm in Coombs, BC in 1943. The family then moved to Port Alberni where he worked at the Somass mill until he retired. In his spare time he gardened for seniors, cut firewood and served as a member of the RCMP auxiliary. After the passing of his parents he moved with his sister Jessie to Parksville where he met and married the love of his life, Pamela Mary Malcomson in 1980. They travelled extensively and lived between Vancouver Island and Whiterock.

A small graveside service will be held on April 27, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Yates Cemetery in Port Alberni BC. A huge thank you to the staff at Mt. St. Mary Hospital, Victoria for the loving care given to Douglas the past three years. He “would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord”.
