Doug passed away suddenly on April 26th at West Coast General Hospital at the age of 73. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and pets.

He is predeceased by his father (Harvey), mother (Olga) and sister (Trudy). He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Donna, his daughters Tania Walter Gardiner (Jonathan), Dana Walter (Brad Parker), grandchildren Raena and Bryn, sister Janet, his dog, Finnegan and many relatives & friends.

We will remember and cherish our memories of him as an unconditionally loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Doug spent his youth fishing, hunting and participating in cadets, rugby, softball and lacrosse. He was fondly known as "Dougie" when he worked at the Pulp Mill under the ownership of McMillan Bloedel and Catalyst as an instrument mechanic until his retirement in 2004. He was a dedicated community member including volunteering with Kinsmen, Blue Wave Swim Club, Tsunami Swim Club, calling Bingo at the Nordly Centre and coaching a variety of youth and adult sports.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday May 7, 2018 at 11:00 am. Join us at Alberni Valley United Church at 3747 Church Street, Port Alberni, B.C. to celebrate Doug's life.
