August 13, 1951 - September 12, 2023

In loving memory ~

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Edward Arthur Proteau, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend on September 12, 2023.

Ed is predeceased by his parents Mac and Isabelle Proteau. Ed is survived by his sister Lynn Nadin, his loving wife Jean and their two children Jim Proteau, and Lori Molcan (Ashley) along with his four grandchildren, Harper, Taylor, Jameson and Thatcher.

Ed was born August 13th, 1951, in Nanaimo where he would spend his childhood. Following high school Ed attended BCIT, completing a Diploma of Technology in Forestry. After BCIT, Ed commenced a 40-year forestry career, where he loved his work and developed many long-lasting friendships. Following retirement Ed continued to be involved in forestry, volunteering with the Alberni Valley Community Forest as a long-serving board member.

Ed's number one priority was spending time with Jean, where the two spent countless hours together creating memories during their 47 years of marriage. Ed always placed importance on being an amazing father, and spending quality time with Jim and Lori whenever there was an opportunity. Ed truly was a family man. Ed fostered these relationships naturally through his easygoing and kind-hearted nature. Ed cherished his time with his four grandchildren, spending countless hours every summer swimming with them in the family pool.

One of Ed's joys in life was his camping trips with family and friends. Ed and Jean enjoyed several winters together travelling south to camp with their friends. Ed enjoyed any kind of family tradition, including his annual family camping trip to Qualicum and Christmas get-togethers.

When Ed had spare time, he could be found puttering around the yard, fixing things or splitting firewood. Often during these times, Ed was followed around by his beloved cat - Rocky. If not at home, Ed could be found lending a hand to family and friends.

Ed will be greatly missed by his loving family and will always be remembered in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 30th, 2023, at Cherry Creek Hall @ 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ty Watson House in honour of Ed. The family would like to express thanks to the ER doctors, nurses at WCGH and the Cardiology Care Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital.
