Our dear mother Madge left us peacefully surrounded by family in her care facility in Duncan, age 97. She is predeceased by her beloved husband William (Bill), parents Fred and Nellie Hamilton, four of five siblings and their spouses: Webster (Dolly), Audrey (Cecil), Ross, Renner, brother-in-law Ray and is survived by her younger sister Joy Sharpe. Madge leaves behind her children: Jamie (Laurie), Megan (Dave), Rory (Sharon), Jennifer (Lucas) and Sara (Rod) as well as her six grandchildren: Greyden (Marlee), Kevin (Alexa), Kelsey, Joshua (Aleksis), Ethan and Sinead and a great-granddaughter, Scottie with more on the way. Mom grew up on a small farm in Manitoba with no indoor plumbing or electricity and ended up working in the Parliament Buildings in Victoria. Mutual friends arranged a blind date with her future husband Bill who she would move to Port Alberni with in 1951 where he began a law practice. They raised five children in a loving, supportive household where mom was always there for all of us and we spent every summer in the rustic cabin on Sproat Lake, times filled with great memories and gatherings with friends. Mom somehow found time to help run a Christian book store in Port Alberni that enjoyed success and was very involved in the Presbyterian Church in Port Alberni, Parksville, Comox and Duncan in keeping with her lifelong faith. She was an avid artist and was still painting in her final days. Madge was universally loved and enjoyed by all and will be missed immensely. Her family is grateful for her long life, amazingly good health and stoicism. She made many people happy and was a joy to be around. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church: 531 Herbert Street, Duncan, BC. The service to be followed with a gathering and refreshments. Donations in memory of Madge can be made directly to Abbeyfield House, Duncan, or World Vision.
