It is with deep sadness that the family of Frances Mitchell announces her passing on February 3, 2017 at the age of 91 years, while visiting family in California.

Following Frances wishes, there will be no service. A private gathering may be held at a later date.

Frances was an active member of the Port Alberni community for 32 years. She was involved in the Sunshine Club, she made friendly phone calls to shut ins for a number of years, she joined the book club, she travelled with the Sunshine group on many day trips, she played the autoharp in the Strummers Club, she was the drummer for the Sunshine Dragon club for years and was very proud of the group's achievements, she was a Red Hat Lady, she drove for the Meals on Wheels Organization for years and later became a Board Member. Her knitted slippers were a huge hit and all were sad when she retired her knitting machine.

Frances is survived by her three daughters Louise (Roger) Kropke, Linda Pethick and Lora (Jim) Brown, her grandchildren Jeffrey, Chad, Julie and David, her beloved sister Virginia Crawford and Virginia's children Leslie, Ahne and Jaimie.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Julius "O.J." of 25 years, as well as her parents Frederick and Alice Stone of Montreal West.

We will all miss her "sniper-like" responses that kept us on our toes and we will always smile at the fond memories we have of this uniquely wonderful woman.
