In Loving Memory ~
Gertrude Zemanek, in the loving surround of her family passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024. She was born on November 2, 1931, in Nova Topola, Bosnia.
In her 92 years, she witnessed a tidal wave of change few can imagine. Leaving Bosnia in 1945 as a refugee and eventually arriving in Canada at Pier 21 in 1954 with her 18-mo. old son heading for Port Alberni to join her husband Franz at Bainbridge.
She was determined to integrate into her new home, becoming a valued friend to many as she also deeply valued her friends.
She will be lovingly remembered for her unedited commentary which left little doubt as to what she really thought.
