We are saddened to announce that Goldie Ziros, our beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the age of 85, at West Coast General Hospital.
Goldie was predeceased by her loving husband Mathew, her parents Paul and Marta, and her brother Randy.
Goldie is survived by her loving sons, Brian and John (Frances), her much cherished granddaughters, Veronika and Anastazia, dear friends, wonderful neighbours and many loving relatives here in Canada as well as in Croatia.
Goldie was born on March 26, 1938, in Croatia, on a beautiful farm and vineyard that straddled the border of Croatia and Slovenia. Leaving post-war Yugoslavia in 1953, Goldie and her mother made their way to Liverpool, England, and then to Canada, joining her father Paul in Chemainus, B.C.
At 17, Goldie met Mathew in Nanaimo and they married that year, 1955, on New Year's Eve, eventually settling in the Alberni Valley.
Goldie loved living in Port Alberni and she enjoyed local valley festivities such as parades, craft fairs, salmon festivals and fall fairs. She always enjoyed her fitness sessions with the Sunshine Club at Echo Centre. She loved gardening and caring for her beautiful flowers, often sharing them with friends. She also cherished and always looked forward to her monthly lunches with her wonderful friends from the old country.
We will miss you Mom. We will always hold and cherish your memories and family stories in our hearts. May you always be at peace.
There will be no service as requested. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider donations in Goldie's memory to the charity of their choice. Donations to the West Coast General Hospital Foundation are also greatly appreciated.
