Jim passed away on February 2, 2024. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Linda; his children Glenn, Darren, Jason and Karen; seven grandchildren Jesper, Tristan, Mattias, Natalie, Nolan, Tibor and Delilah; as well as his remaining siblings and friends. Jim was born in Grindsted, Denmark, not far from where Legoland stands today. He grew up with sixteen siblings during the Second World War and immigrated to Canada with his sister Ella at the age of 17 in 1956.
Jim was known for his dad jokes, aebleskiver, impressive gardening skills (always giving away rhubarb or showing off his prize flowers) and his willingness to help with any task for family, friends, or neighbours. He spent much of his life raising his family in Cherry Creek and working at the Somass sawmill for over thirty years. He could often be found watching, coaching, or playing soccer, heckling the hockey game on TV, or stopping in at the lotto center, hoping to win the big one with his weekly numbers.
Jim most enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with Linda and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Linda and the family would like to thank Jim's healthcare team who supported him over the past year and a half, including Dr. Kulla at the Nanaimo Cancer Clinic. They're also grateful for the incredible kindness of the Palliative Care team at Oceanside, in particular Dr. Hunter and all the wonderful nurses and therapists who all helped keep him comfortable at home to the end.
Jim's memorial service will take place Monday, February 26th, 2024 at 11am at The Trinity Anglican + Lutheran Church in Port Alberni (4766 Angus Street).
In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca would be appreciated.
