December 13, 2018
Jim Brooks passed away surrounded by loving family in Westhaven on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the age of 82.

Predeceased by his parents Margaret and Ernest; brothers Robert, Ernie, Archie; sisters Evelyn, Janet and Linda.

Survived by loving wife of 59 years Bessie; daughters Sheryl and Louise; grandchildren Angelle and Garett; brothers Reg and Alvin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Born on the prairies, Jim arrived in the valley in 1955 in search of work. He worked for Franklin River for a short time, then went to work for Somass Division and retired after 42 years as a Tug boat operator.

When not working, Jim enjoyed helping friends and family with whatever project they needed help with where he put his own unique spin on being a handyman. He spent time hunting on the Island and in the Interior of BC as well as saltwater fishing. Jim also spent time gardening and doing yard work. He was always a 'wanna be cowboy' and could be found listening to country music - especially the older music like Johnny Cash and Elvis.

In a crowd of people, his booming laugh could be picked out in a crowd. His enjoyment of hockey started at a young age, growing up listening to Hockey Night in Canada on the radio then later watching it on the television and playing in some community games.

A service will be held at a later time in the new year. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Stories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr Dewitt and to the staff of Westhaven for their wonderful care.
