May 2, 1980 - September 20, 2020
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kevin on Sunday, September 20, 2020 following a lengthy illness.
He leaves to forever miss him, his mom, Debby McGunigal; brothers, Jared (Kylie) and Jordie; nieces and nephew, Avery, Logan, and Peri of Calgary; grandmother, Olga Kanigan; aunts and uncle, Patty, Elaine, Bob Kanigan, and Sandi (Chris) Chernomaz; cousins, Riley (Sam) Kanigan, Kaitlyn (Brendin and baby Branson) Schievink, Ryland Chernomaz, and Michael and Madeline Kanigan-Joseph; step mom, Janet Fitzgerald; step brothers, Sheldon (Michelle and baby Ben), Leo, Myles, and Gerry Fitzgerald; special friend, Jill; and numerous other family members who loved him dearly.
Kevin was predeceased by this dad, Ron McGunigal, grandfather, Bill Kanigan; grandparents, Bob and Jean McGunigal; and uncles, Steve and Lance McGunigal.
Kevin was born on May 2, 1980 in Port Alberni on a beautiful sunny afternoon. He was raised in the Alberni Valley, the place he loved most in the world.
Living here offered him the opportunity to explore the outdoors trails and lakes with his best pal, his dog Holly. The Valley also offered him the opportunity to enjoy the sports he so loved; softball, basketball, and his favourite, soccer where he met and made many lifelong friends.
Kevin moved to Calgary shortly after he graduated but he always returned to his "home" - Port Alberni. Kevin had a smile that could light up a room and a sense of humour to match. He always saw the good in everyone. Kevin's passing has left a hole in the hearts of many who loved him. We will miss you Kevin.
We are grateful for the excellent care Kevin received from the doctors, nurses, and support staff at WCGH. A very special thank you to Faylen Arbanas who went above and beyond to provide such needed support for our family.
Due to covid-19 restrictions, a private celebration of Kevin's life will be held which we will Live Stream for those who wish to join us. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Kevin's memory may do so by making a donation in his name to the Alberni Youth Soccer Program.
