In Loving Memory ~

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom, nana and friend, Margaret Ellen Clarke after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Margaret passed away with her family by her side June 3, 2024.

Predeceased by her parents Coy and Margaret Melton, brothers Willie, Coy Jr, Louis, sisters Marylon and Florene.

Margaret is survived by her devoted loving husband of 60 years Gerald, sons Kiltie Clarke (Clare) & Kevin Clarke (Serena). Grandchildren Dylan Clarke (Janine), Julia Clarke, Nick Love (Rylie), Hannah Love (Conner), Sister Carylon Elliot (Ron). Great-grandkids Landon, Niles and Alexander as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Born to Coy and Margaret Melton in Pensacola Florida June 6, 1943, Margaret moved to McBride, BC with her family at the age of 3. In 1962 she spent 3 years doing nursing training in the army. After finding a posting in the newspaper she travelled to work as a nurse in Tofino in 1965.

During a fundraiser for the local hospital, Margaret was dancing when Gerald, a commercial fisherman, laid eyes on her and the rest is history. Welcoming their first son Kiltie in 1966 and their second son Kevin in 1968. Margaret after having her children, retired to be a stay home mom and raise their boys.

In 1974, Gerald and Margaret moved to Port Alberni and purchased a farm where many wonderful memories were made.

Margaret loved trout fishing and bingo. Gerald used to say "mom was gone to work" when she went to bingo, it was her job. Gerald canned her sockeye every year for decades and would say every year if he didn't that Margaret might leave him.

Margaret didn't only love her boys but that included any friends that would come over, sometimes including when her own boys weren't around. She always had a way of making everyone feel loved and cared for.

We would like to send our deepest gratitude to all the staff at Echo Village who took care of Margaret for the last 2.5 years. Her final days were treated with grace and respect and for that we are very grateful.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Margaret at the Trinity Church Hall June 22 from 1:00-3:00pm. 4766 Angus St, Port Alberni, BC.
