April 3, 1929 - October 16, 2019
Phyllis Georgina Brown, age 90, passed away peacefully in Ty Watson House on October 16th 2019 of congestive heart failure. She was born April 3rd, 1929 in Port Alberni to Grace and Fred Robinson. She was fortunate enough to live her entire life in the community.
Phyllis was married in 1953 to Alvin Brown, who lived across the street from her childhood home on 5th Avenue. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter. She remained in the family home until 2017. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Kevin Ronning), son Alvin (Olena Sivak), daughter in law Daisy Brown; grandchildren Trevor (Alison), Erin (Mike), Ruslan (Katya), Colin (Stephanie) and Cameron; plus 6 great grandchildren Austin, Sidney, Ehvan, Mathew, Nathan, and Sasha. Her husband Alvin passed away in 1993 and son Stuart passed away in 2010. Family was always important to Phyllis and she loved them all dearly. Phyllis agreed to "downsize" into a patio home at the end of 2017. She lived independently until partway through this year when her deteriorating health created a need for home support.
Phyllis grew up during the 1930's and 40's. These were difficult years. She was the eldest of six children so in addition to going to school she was responsible for many household tasks. When Phyllis completed high school she joined the work force. She was a telephone operator and remained employed at the telephone office until she married.
Phyllis was always an active member of her church and many charitable causes in the valley. Family, friends and acquaintances have always been amazed by her clear and unwavering recollections of her past. In her own quiet way she was a very strong and independent woman. She will be remembered by many for her kind and helpful deeds.
The family would like to thank her many friends and relatives. We recognize and appreciate her special church family. We cannot thank you enough for the rides you provided not only to church but also for shopping, doctors visits and special outings. You were all an important part of Phyllis' life. Also a very large thank you to everyone at Ty Watson House. Your caring ways are recognized and valued by Phyllis' family. All the family members were welcomed and were able to spend precious and memorable time with her during her stay at Ty Watson.
