1960 – 2016
All too soon, Richard passed away suddenly on September 26th with his faithful companion Tala by his side, and in the shadow of the forests he loved and worked to protect. Born in Toronto, Richard was an alumna of Flemming College and Lakehead University, but spent most of his life in the Port Alberni, B.C. area, most recently as a silviculture forester with Francois Warren and Associates. Rich is survived by his mother Isobel Chapman Reckitt of Hudson, QC., sister Susan (Bill) Newell of Naples, Fla., brothers David (Mary) of Saint Lazare, QC., Robert (Jennifer) of Toronto, ON., and Frederick (Doug) Douglas (Debbie) Whittall of Pleasantville, N.S., nephews Doug and John (Sarah) Whittall, nieces Ann and Robin Whittall, goddaughter Tammy Vernon of Georgetown, ON., and numerous friends across the country. A lifelong friend of the forests, his passing has left a hole in the planet and in our hearts. A memorial gathering has been held. Donations may be made in Richard’s name to Save the Great Bear or PacificWild organizations. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.yatesfuneral.ca
