Tom passed away on Tuesday, December 6, in Port Alberni, with his family by his side at the age of 62. Predeceased by his father, Ronnie (Scotty), Tom is survived by his loving wife Rhona, his daughters Tanya (Tony) and Kristin (J.P.), and his two granddaughters Olivia and Jocelyn. He is also survived by his beloved Mum May, sisters Lynda (Bob) and Gail (Rick), inlaws Ron and Nita, sister-in-law Lorelei (Todd), his nephews Ryan, Jordan and Darcey and their families, as well as faithful companion Levi, and other family and friends in Canada and Scotland. Born in Scotland, Tom was a teenager when he emigrated to Port Alberni in 1968 with his family. After graduating high school, Tom went to work for MB, Sproat Lake Division. He had a natural ability for operating machinery, which he did for most of his 35 year career in the Y&L department. He was a strong advocate for his fellow workers, which led him to be heavily involved in all aspects of Union Business, culminating in a 3 year term as President of Local 1-85. When not working, Tom enjoyed adventures with his family and friends, soaring above the mountains in his 172 Cessna. Tom was most happy with loved ones, camping, cooking oysters on a fire, playing harmonica, spending time in Fanny Bay and travelling the world with Rhona. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to meet him. A celebration of life will be held 1:00pm to 3:00pm, Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Steelworkers Hall, 4904 Montrose Street.
