Is that politics or justice, sir?

Harper’s Conservatives are chipping away at the foundation of Canada’s democracy to further their self-centered partisan interests.

To the Editor,

In the 18th century the English jurist Sir William Blackstone wrote, “It is better that 10 guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer.”

Given the nauseating frequency Harper and his well-trained minions repeat one of their favourite talking points, ‘our-government-is-tough-on-crime’, they would probably vehemently disagree and say, “It is far better to have 10 innocent people suffer than have one guilty person escape.”
