Armada guard Leah Hudson advances the ball against the Dover Bay Dolphins in the AAA Island championships on Friday. The Dolphins beat the Armada 57-53 ending the Armada's season.

The season is now over for the Alberni District Secondary School Armada senior girl’s basketball team.

The Dover Bay Dolphins edged the Armada 57-53 in a Friday afternoon tilt at the ADSS gym.

The loss was Alberni’s second and knocked them out of the AAA Island basketball championships.

They placed seventh in the eight team tournament.

Dover Bay advances on Saturday to play Stelly’s, who was beaten by Claremont 80-47 on Friday.

The Armada’s Jamie Oliver scored 17 points in the game against the Dolphins and was a rebounding force on both ends of the floor.

Her teammate Paige Hansen was the team’s second leading scorer with 9 points.

The Dolphins' Ashley Korabek and Jamie Bassett led their team's scoring with 17 and 13 points respectively.

Their teammate Cassandra Knievel was named player of the game.

The Armada played like a different team than the one that lost on Thursday to Oak Bay.

Crisp ball movement, deft scoring, tight defense and a dogged press at the end of the second quarter enabled them to take a 27-18 lead at the half.

Dover Bay though played like a different team that lost to Spectrum on Friday.

Their age (Grade 11-12) and experience came through in the second half and they took a 40-38 lead after three.

The Armada kept it close in the fourth.

Jamie Oliver scored a hard two points from the paint with 30 seconds left to make it 51-49.

The Armada added four more points but Dover chipped in six of their own to hold the lead and seal the game 57-53.

In the day’s previous games, the Ballenas Whalers knocked the GP Vanier Towees out of the tourney with a 48-26 win.

The Whalers advance on Saturday to play Oak Bay, who was beaten by Spectrum 70-66.

Claremont will play Spectrum for first and second place.

The third and fourth place game wasn’t determined by press time.

The top three teams advance to the AAA provincial championships in March.
