Alberni athletes set to compete in BC Summer Games

Almost 2,400 young athletes from across the province will be competing at BC Summer Games next week, and 14 of them will be representing Port Alberni.

The BC Games will take place on Vancouver Island this year, with the Cowichan Valley has been selected as the host.

Port Alberni is well-represented in the wrestling category, with Mackenzie Boudreau, Jayce Clayton, Scott Coulthart, Paige Maher, Bobby McKenzie, Seth Price and Owen Spencer participating in the events. Additionally, Alana Oakes and Morgan Dagenais will be attending the Games as officials.

Isabella Hall, Emily Hunt and Samuel Wynans will be competing for Port Alberni in the athletics category. Jenella Johnson-Sabbas will be playing 5-on-5 basketball, Diego Hopkins will be guarding the goalposts in field lacrosse, Tristan Plater will be competing in soccer and Corynn Ayres will be swimming.

Claude Lavertu will take part in softball as an official, while Russell Turnbull will act as assistant coach for the Special Olympics swimming category.

The BC Games will take place from July 19-22.
