The Alberni Valley Bulldogs’ BC Hockey League playoff prospects have come down to the final two games of the regular season.

The Bulldogs are tied for fourth place in the Island Division with the Victoria Grizzlies with 50 points, but have two fewer wins than the Grizzlies. Both teams are playing two games this weekend.

The Bulldogs are riding a four-game points streak: two wins, one tie and one overtime loss. They host Powell River Kings for a pair of games this weekend: Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.

The top four teams from each of the three divisions will make the playoffs for a total of 12 playoff teams. Each team will be seeded, with No. 1 playing No. 4 and No. 2 playing No. 3.

Given this scenario, should the Bulldogs earn the final playoff spot in the Island division they will play the Nanaimo Clippers, who already clinched the division.

Round 1 of the BC Ford Dealers Road to the Fred Page Cup starts on Friday, March 4 and is a best-of-seven series.

The Bulldogs and Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District are teaming up for the ‘Dogs’ game on Saturday to celebrate emergency first responders in the Alberni Valley and encourage personal preparedness.

“During a ceremonial faceoff we will be honouring those that are there for our community in emergencies and disasters: our first responders,” the team noted in a statement.

There will be contests and giveaways too.
