If we didn’t have bad luck we wouldn’t have any luck at all.
At least that’s the way it seemed for most of us on Tuesday. The game started out fairly quietly at first but then the wheels fell off.
The whole idea was to assign each player a number, one to four, and when you finished the hole you had to take the score of the player with the corresponding number. If you rolled a five you had to take five strokes for the hole and if you rolled a six you got to choose the best hole for your team.
Sharon Haggard and Joan Thompson got real lucky to have played with Carol Hastings, who dragged them around the whole course and came in with first place, carding a net 73. The game was called Port Scramble.
Janice Cross, the holder of the Challenge Pin relinquished it today to challenger, Sandra Simpson.
Carol Bouchard took the low gross honours. Carol Hastings beat out the rest of the gamblers with her low net score of 66.
9-Hole Division: Marta Willimson was out in front as the low gross scorer. Marie Swain scooped the low net and finally, LaDonna Knutson and Kathy Toms shared the putting pot.
B Division: Low gross score was carded by Lorraine Wilson. Marj Dufour was alone in the low net category. Lesley Anderson and Louise Berlinsky split the putting pot, having had the fewest number of putts.
These girls went “chipping” crazy...Mary Ann sunk hers on hole No. 1. Betty Adair holed out on No. 7; Cass Parker on No. 3 and Lesley Anderson on No. 5.
Marta Williamson not only chipped in on No. 4 but that chip-in gave her a birdie. Willimson went on the finish her round with pars on holes No. 2, No. 5, and No. 8. Well done. We should have had money on you.
Friday, Sept. 28 is the Night Golf at the Alberni Golf Club. The Business Ladies final scramble is on Sunday, Sept. 30th...sign up for either of these fun events in the pro shop.
The ladies’ closing luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9. We all need to get our name on the circulating list.
Hmmm, that means there’s only two official Tuesday golf days left...we’ll all be at our best games to make up for the wheels falling off on past ones.
