The Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club hosted a mixed triples District Open Tournament on Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19.
Port Alberni hosts three open tournaments a year, drawing more than 20 teams from Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Courtenay and Powell River.
Port Alberni will also be hosting the District Men’s, Women’s and Novice Singles championships from September 8-9.
“All the best singles players from each club will come here to play for the district championship,” explained club member Robin Forrest.
Forrest and her husband, Stephen, won the Mixed Pairs Tournament that was hosted at the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club earlier this month.

“This club…even though we have the fewest members, we have our fair share of successes,” said Forrest. “And we probably have the best playing surface of any club in the district.”
“We’re pretty good for a small club,” added Jake Van Kooten.
Last year, Port Alberni hosted the senior women’s triples provincials, and the home team of Elaine van Kooten, Nancy Hemmingsen and Robin Forrest took gold.
