The V.I. Raiders football team are returning to Port Alberni after a hiatus. They used to run their training camp here in past years, coach Matthew “Snoop” Blokker said.
“I just like Port Alberni. It’s kind of where we started the camp and it’s time for us to get back to our roots and this is a good start,” he said.
Last year the team’s main camp was held in Duncan prior to the start of the Canadian Junior Football League season.
“It’s nice to get a change,” Blokker said.
“We missed being up at Port Alberni. The No. 1 reason was they had hockey camps up there for a bit but they really showed interest this year in having us up and at the end of the day we got a really good deal to be up there.”
The Raiders will practice Thursday, July 14 from 6:30–9 p.m., Friday at 10:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The team has fitness training Monday morning.
